A different kind of adult client shows up occasionally. Not a beginner at all, but someone who swam competitively in high school or college and, twenty years later, gets back in a pool and feels like something's off. They're not wrong. Bodies change, old habits fade, and a few small technical errors tend to creep in over years of not swimming regularly.
Breathing pattern is the most common one, adults returning to swimming after a long break often revert to lifting their head too high rather than rotating properly, which throws off body position and burns far more energy than it should. Shoulder mobility changes over the years also show up in stroke mechanics more than people expect.
These sessions move fast, focus almost entirely on technique rather than comfort, and often just take two or three lessons to sort out the specific habit that's causing the most drag. It's less "learning to swim" and more "un-learning one bad habit."
Get your old stroke back, faster than starting from scratch.
